Here is a story I like to tell to explain the difference water makes for your body when you have a massage.
Much earlier in my massage career I had a young boiler maker come to me regularly. He was a lovely bloke and he got a lot from the massage, though I always found his sessions hard work. Once, when he was due for his next appointment, his wife called and said he wouldn’t be coming as he has been rushed to hospital in a lot of pain. I later found out he had passed a kidney stone. For those who are unaware kidney stones are very very painful to pass. They found he had a second stone and he had asked what he had to do to avoid passing the second stone. The specialist had said he had to drink a lot of water so for a number of weeks he was visiting the toilet every 20 minutes. I had a big “ah ha” moment when he came for his next appointment as he was sooo much easier to work on. His muscles were like butter. He also came much less often from then on.
So please do drink plenty of water. You don’t need to be visiting the toilet every 20 minutes but drinking roughly 3 Litres of water per day with extra if you are exercising, pregnant or breastfeeding will keep you hydrated.
